About the Author of
Napsha, the Miracle Dragon

That story reminded me of myself when I was the same age. I had a book filled with rich illustrations that drew me into the story and fired my imagination. I wanted to read the words that went with the pictures so intensely that I finally took the book into my closet and stayed there all afternoon. I sounded out each word and, by the time I came out of the closet, I virtually knew how to read.

That memory is part of the reason I chose to write a book with full-page, colored illustrations. Whenever I would read to children at the grade school where I first presented the Napsha stories, I also placed large, colored illustrations on an easel for them to look at. To my amazement, the same phenomenon happened in every classroom. The children became still and quiet. Some of them curled up at my feet. When I finished, they were centered and peaceful.

I tried a number of things to help the children find a centered place within themselves in the 25 minutes I had to spend with them during the years I participated in the program. This was, by far, the most powerful.

Perhaps, reading to children and allowing them to take their time to study the illustrations will help them to grow into centered, patient adults. I do know that the Napsha books are a great way to introduce children to ideas that will prepare them for the principles taught in michael’s book, Why is This Happening to Me ... AGAIN!?

"Love is inside me," is the "lesson" contained in Napsha, the miracle dragon. That idea is the cornerstone of self acceptance and compassion. It’s what we need to know before we can feel secure enough to take a look at what’s hidden in the darkest corners of our mind. When we understand that love is at the core of our being, it becomes safe to look inside.

It’s true, by the way. Love is inside us. It’s as natural for us to love as it is to take our next breath. Children already know that. We just need to remember ourselves and help them to remember as they grow up. Napsha is my way of helping us all to remember who we are.

The mother of two, CJ has had an opportunity to interact with children on a number of levels and feels fantasy is a powerful way to connect with them.
